Often described as beautifully unique and an amazing place to call home, Delray Beach simply offers a quality of life like no other. The city boasts award-winning public beaches, an exciting downtown nightlife, gorgeous Delray Beach homes and Delray Beach condos in excellent neighborhoods, a thriving economy and an array of cultural activities for all to enjoy.
Delray Beach homes and Delray Beach condos are located in the southern end of Florida’s Palm Beach County. Originally settled as an agricultural community in 1895, Delray Beach was first incorporated in 1911. It officially became the City of Delray Beach on May 11, 1927. Since the city’s incorporation, Delray Beach homes have been sought out by thousands of people. Delray Beach has experienced major growth; its population has expanded from just 1,015 people in 1920, to more than 64,000 people today.
Over 90 percent of Delray Beach’s 16 square miles of land area has been developed to provide Delray Beach homes, Delray Beach condos, shopping centers, restaurants, schools, and more. Corporations such as Office Depot, Oriole Homes, Levengers, and North American Shared Services Center for Joseph Seagrams and Sons, Inc. have positioned their headquarters in Delray Beach. At present, the city is focused mainly on renewal and redevelopment for Delray Beach residences and businesses.
A Dynamic and Evolving Community
The City of Delray Beach continuously strives to maintain and build a promising future for all of its residents. Delray Beach’s educational system is one of many areas in the city that continues to grow and improve each year. The city prides itself in providing its children with an endless amount of enriching opportunities.
The Delray Beach community has also been well recognized for the citizens who take an active role in the neighborhood and community associations, as well as in the affairs of the city government. In 1993, Delray Beach was recognized as an All-America City. The All-America City award program recognizes just ten communities within the U.S. each year, for constructive citizen participation and collaboration of the public, private, and nonprofit sectors in identifying and resolving critical issues. Delray Beach was a finalist for the All-America City award in 1998, and earned recognition again in 2001. With this, Delray Beach is the only Florida city to ever win the prestigious designation twice.
Residents of Delray Beach, including those who own Delray Beach homes and Delray Beach condos, are subject to a commission-manager form of government. The City Manager is responsible for running the daily operation of Delray Beach, and oversees the City Commission for the supervision and leadership of the City’s workforce. City departments of Delray Beach include Administrative Services, City Clerk, Community Improvement, Environmental Services, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Parks and Recreation, Planning and Zoning, and Police.
