A Beautiful and Growing Town
Enhancing Highland Beach luxury real estate is the town’s “Main Street,” a beautiful tree-lined area of Florida’s state road A1A. The downtown area provides residents and visitors with a unique array of shopping, dining, and cultural opportunities.
Highland Beach is largely a residential community, which recently celebrated its fiftieth anniversary. Highland Beach real estate is known for providing residents with a quiet and laidback Florida lifestyle. A large portion of people who are looking into Highland Beach real estate are retirees, as well as others who are seeking a beautiful and tranquil place to live. The current residents of Highland Beach include about 80 percent retirees, and the remaining 20 percent are comprised of people who are employed or engaged in business enterprises located in Palm Beach and Broward Counties.
Highland Beach provides general municipal services to residents, including police protection and a new library that opened in 2006. The new library is ten times larger than the previous one, and provides residents with more choices in the latest reading materials, periodicals, videos, DVDs and more. The library faces the Intracoastal Waterway and boasts a large reading rotunda with comfortable leather chairs, two screened porches, public computers, and an expansive community room.
Water and wastewater utility services, fire protection, solid waste, and postal services are also provided by the town.
Highland Beach’s governing body consists of a five member Town Commission, and each member is elected for two-year overlapping terms. The daily affairs of the Town are under the leadership of a Town Manager who is appointed by the Commission.
At present, the Highland Beach town staff has grown to 37 full-time employees, seven part-time employees and the five elected officials. The value of Highland Beach real estate continues to grow at a rapid rate, and the financial condition of Highland Beach is anticipated to continue to increase. Considering this, the municipal tax rate in town is expected to remain low. Presently the tax rate is within the lowest 15 percent of all of Palm Beach County.
Some of the groups and organizations in Highland Beach include the Highland Beach Cultural Board, Beaches and Shores Advisory Workshop, Cultural Advisory Board, the Planning Board, the Town Commission and more. All of these groups seek to enrich the community through the arts, education, business development, and culture.
